Martin achieved an MA in Fine Art from Falmouth College of Art and Design in 2000. He now paints full time but has also been a computer designer (1968 - 75) and physics teacher (1976 - 99). Even while engaged in other careers, Martin has been very involved in his art attending a wide variety of classes including an intensive Life Painting course at the Slade School of Art, University of London (1995).
"Drawing is the basis of my work but for me colour and surface quality are essential to convey experience: when working in situ, that experience can be the excitement of a spanish horse in the heat of a july afternoon. However, when I am working in the studio, the painting might suddenly speak to me of another different, but now more 'pressing' experience and I am happy to follow where the painting leads me.
This is the beauty of experiment, opening opportunites for imagination and expression.
There are examples of my work and an extended biography on www.martingrimshaw.co.uk"
